Mid-tier IT services firm Sonata Software has appointed Rajsekhar Datta Roy as Chief Executive Officer, effective May 9, 2026, marking a leadership transition as the company sharpens its focus on AI-led modernisation and global growth.

Roy, who will serve a three-year term, will lead the company’s international business. The move comes as current Managing Director and CEO Samir Dhir prepares to step down at the close of business on May 8, 2026, after which he will continue as an advisor to the board until December 31, 2026 to ensure a smooth transition.

The leadership change follows a period of strategic transformation at Sonata Software, which has been positioning itself as an AI-first modernisation engineering company. Roy, with over three decades of experience in the company, has played a central role in this shift, particularly through scaling the company’s Microsoft and Dynamics practices into major industry-focused offerings.

“Raj’s promotion to CEO underscores our confidence in his leadership and strong technology vision. His deep understanding of Sonata Software, combined with his technology-driven approach, will help us continue building an innovative and trusted organisation,” Srikar Reddy, Executive Vice Chairman, Sonata Software, mentioned in the release.

Roy most recently served as Chief Technology Officer, where he led global delivery operations and the company’s transition to an AI-first delivery model. Over the past year, he has been closely involved in advancing initiatives such as the company’s responsible-first AI approach and the development of its Harmoni.AI platform, while also driving improvements in operational margins through execution and efficiency measures.

“Our collective focus will remain on being strategic partners to our clients as we enable their AI modernisation journeys by harnessing the power of ecosystems and creating long-term value for all our stakeholders,”  Roy said.

The company said the board has expressed appreciation for Dhir’s leadership, under which Sonata Software strengthened its positioning as a strategic partner to global clients and advanced into its next phase of growth.

Headquartered in Bengaluru, Sonata Software reported over $1.2 billion in revenue and employs more than 6,400 AI engineers globally. The company works with Fortune 500 clients across sectors, including banking, healthcare, telecom, retail, and manufacturing, supported by partnerships with major technology providers such as Microsoft, AWS, Salesforce, and Snowflake
