Jio BlackRock Investment Advisers has appointed Prashant Patankar as Head of Human Resources, bringing in a senior HR executive to lead the people function for its India asset management business.
Patankar will oversee talent acquisition, workforce planning, performance management, compensation design and employee governance across the organisation. His mandate covers end-to-end human capital management as the firm builds its operating structure following regulatory approval to enter India’s mutual fund market.
Jio BlackRock is the 50:50 joint venture between Jio Financial Services and BlackRock. The entity received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India in May 2025 to commence mutual fund operations. Since securing its licence, the firm has launched its initial debt and liquid fund offerings and expanded its leadership bench across investment, risk, compliance, distribution and technology.
The company has reported crossing one million investor accounts within months of launch. Its assets under management have exceeded ₹13,000 crore across early product lines, indicating rapid onboarding in its first phase of operations.
In a LinkedIn post announcing his move, Patankar wrote, “I am happy to share that I have joined the team at JioBlackRock… Our aim is to provide accessible, affordable and institutional-quality investment solutions to the people of India delivered through a simple, familiar app.”
India’s mutual fund industry has continued to expand, with total assets under management exceeding ₹80 lakh crore as of early 2026. More than 40 asset management companies operate in the market, offering equity, debt, hybrid and passive products to retail and institutional investors.
Operating within this framework requires structured oversight of recruitment, role eligibility, certification tracking and compensation governance. Asset managers must maintain documented internal controls and ensure that designated personnel meet regulatory criteria. The HR function therefore, plays a defined role in aligning hiring practices and employee policies with compliance standards.
Patankar brings over two decades of experience in human resources across financial services and multinational organisations. He most recently served as HR Lead for Colgate-Palmolive’s Global Business Services centre in Mumbai, overseeing people operations across finance and shared services teams. Earlier, he held HR roles at Standard Chartered Bank across banking and operational units. He began his career at Capgemini, working with technology and services teams.
He holds a Master’s degree in Labour Studies from the Maharashtra Institute of Labour Studies, with academic training in labour law and industrial relations.
BlackRock, Jio BlackRock’s global partner, manages approximately $13.5 trillion in assets worldwide, making it the largest asset manager by assets under management. The India joint venture combines BlackRock’s global investment and risk management processes with Jio Financial Services’ domestic digital distribution network.
Growth in industry assets has increased demand for professionals in portfolio management, research, compliance, data analytics, operations and distribution. Compensation structures in asset management typically include fixed and performance-linked components, requiring oversight from HR and compliance teams.
