India’s creator economy is rapidly becoming more institutionalised, with creator-related job postings rising by 919% between 2020 and early 2026 as companies move from ad-hoc influencer partnerships to structured in-house creator teams, a report released by Indeed on May 25 showed.
The report stated that creator-focused roles, which accounted for roughly one in every 1,000 marketing jobs in 2020, now account for nearly one in 100 marketing-related openings in India.
According to the report, companies are increasingly embedding creators, influencers, and social media professionals into formal organisational structures rather than relying solely on external collaborations.
The hiring surge reflects a broader shift in how brands approach digital engagement, with organisations now building integrated, end-to-end content capabilities across marketing, production, engagement, and community operations.
Despite the rapid expansion of India’s influencer ecosystem, the report noted that demand for structured creator roles is significantly outpacing the available talent pool, creating a widening skills gap across the sector.
Between March 2025 and February 2026, nearly 40% of creator-related openings were classified under influencer roles, while around 20% were categorised as marketing executive positions.
However, the report highlighted that close to 60% of creator-economy hiring now falls outside traditional influencer designations. Companies are increasingly recruiting for roles spanning video production, community management, content operations, and audience engagement functions.
The findings suggest that the creator economy is evolving beyond individual social media personalities into a broader business and operational ecosystem, where brands are investing in dedicated teams to manage digital storytelling, audience growth, and creator-led marketing strategies at scale.
